Inauguration of the “General Antonio de León” Obelisk for Peace

With great enthusiasm, Mayor Luis de León Martínez Sánchez inaugurated the "General Antonio de León" Obelisk for Peace, a landmark project that beautifies and modernizes Huajuapan by addressing real needs: water, drainage, and sewage lines were renovated, roadways were reorganized, and a strategic access point to the city was given a new urban face. Accompanied by members of the City Council, municipal officials, citizens, and guests such as Senator Luis Alfonso Silva Romo, this project realizes a dream begun eleven years ago: to offer dignified, modern access points befitting our historical grandeur.

In the framework of the anniversary of the Proclamation of the Independence of Oaxaca, the mayor led the traditional cavalcade with charro and escaramuza groups, honoring the legacy of General Antonio de León, a hero originally from our Heroic City of Huajuapan de León. The proclamation in Huajuapan de León took place on June 19, 1821, consummating regional freedom within the Mexican independence process. As historiography tells us, General Antonio de León proclaimed independence in the Mixteca region in mid-June 1821, joining forces with the liberation cause. The participation of Senator Luis Alfonso Silva Romo and the community strengthens civic unity and respect for our roots, celebrating a date that connects past and present.

These events, the inauguration of the Obelisk and the historic parade, unite infrastructure and tradition, reaffirming the commitment of the Municipal Government of Huajuapan de León to the well-being, identity, and progress of the region. Following the example of General Antonio de León, we renew our connection between past, present, and future: honoring history to build a stronger, more cohesive city, proud of its roots.
